Birth and Parent Companion Program (more)

parent-companion@mothercraft.com

The Birth and Parent Companion Program recruits, screens and trains community volunteers to provide individual, friendly, non-judgmental support to high risk parents during pregnancy, childbirth and the early years of parenting. These experienced and trained volunteers share their time, knowledge and experience with low income and/or socially isolated parents in the city of Ottawa who are seeking support in their efforts to be the best parents they can be. Building on individual strengths, volunteers guide the mothers in developing self-esteem and confidence and encourage healthy relationships and lifestyle choices. Volunteers model communication skills and explore effective problem solving measures with their matches. Volunteer/mom matches begin in pregnancy and continue through the early weeks of parenting in the Birth Companion section of the Program and up to two years and longer in the Parent Companion section of the Program.

Waterbridge School Age Program (more) waterbridge@mothercraft.com

Canadian Mothercraft’s Waterbridge School Age Program is attached to the Ottawa Carleton District School Board’s Farley Mowat Public School (located at the corner of Waterbridge Drive and Cresthaven Drive in Barrhaven).  We offer before and after-school Early Childhood Education Programs for 20 Kindergarten (JK/SK) children and 30 School Age (6-10 years of age) children.

Please note:  Effective for the 2007/2008 school year, kindergarten children must be registered in the afternoon Kindergarten Program at Farley Mowat Public School (i.e. the children attend Waterbridge School Age Program in the morning, go to school in the afternoon and then return to Waterbridge at 2:30 p.m. for the remainder of the day).

According to the school, students who attend Farley Mowat Public School must either live in the school’s attendance area or have an approved transfer from their home school. Having a child care space at Waterbridge School Age Program does not have an impact on the approval or denial of a school transfer.  For information about school transfers please call the school office at 613-825-3006.

Our Waterbridge School Age Program opened in September 2006. The hours of operation for the new centre are 7:00 a.m. to 5:45 p.m.   The fees are $33.00 per day for Kindergarten care and $22.50 per day for School Age care.  The daily rate remains constant regardless of whether it is a school day or a full day in the child care (i.e., PD days, March and summer breaks).
