Mothercraft Birth Support provides doula services on a sliding fee scale. This means that for families who may have not been able to access the free services, and for whom community doula fees are out of reach, there is an option.
The role of the doula is to provide information, advocacy, and emotional and physical support to women and their partners before, during and after childbirth. Women who give birth with the support of a doula experience fewer caesarean births, fewer interventions and complications during childbirth, greater success breastfeeding, and are more likely to have positive feelings about their labour and childbirth.
Partners, friends and loved ones can also benefit from the support of doulas. Information and support allow them to engage in the process without feeling stressed, and to the level that they feel most comfortable.
Mothercraft Birth Support is operated as a social enterprise. All revenues generated from Mothercraft Birth Support are used to support the ongoing work of the Birth Companion Program.
