Parent Companions work with clients to translate needs into opportunities.
Working towards community integration and self sufficiency, volunteer Parent Companions assist clients in developing short and long term goals that will positively impact their family’s future.
Parent Companions assist in securing adequate housing, accessing positive parenting information and support, pursuing of further education and training, answering questions on infant growth and development and modeling positive parenting.
These matches may continue for up to four years depending on need, and each match is uniquely tailored to that client’s specific situation.
Benefits of Parent Companions
Developing links to the community, and a network within it, allows otherwise isolated families to fully integrate into the community to the benefit of both.
This program is a constructive and positive way to reduce risk for mothers and children and help them to self-determine their way into a happier future.
The program often helps marginalized women in the community obtain higher education and increased employability reducing the length of time they need to be supported by the system.
