The Gingerbread Event

20 Years of Creative Family Fun!

Mothercraft’s 20th Annual Gingerbread Event will take place on December 12th, 2010 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel.  This is a very popular event for Ottawa families, and has become an annual holiday tradition.  All proceeds from this event benefit Mothercraft’s work in supporting vulnerable families through the Birth and Parent Companion Program.

Families spend the afternoon enjoying decorating a delicious masterpiece together, making crafts, getting their faces painted and enjoying the kid friendly entertainment with Junk Yard Symphony, Santa and other special guests!  The bonus is they have none of the mess to deal with afterwards!

Caring community businesses and individuals love to attend this event, and to make this enchanting day available to those who could not normally attend.  With thanks to Scotiabank, who have sponsored 10 tables and other local heroes for making this possible for community children from the Boys and Girls Club, Christie Lake Kids, Caldwell Family House and Debra Dynes Family House.

The Birth and Parent Companion Program (BPCP) aims to improve prenatal health and birth outcomes, support mother-infant attachment and bonding, increase education and access to community support, and build positive parenting skills.  The BPCP trains volunteer Companions to provide one-on-one support, information, companionship, and mentoring to mothers who are alone, marginalized, or otherwise "at risk" for parenting. The mothers involved with our program are often at greater risk of depression, malnourishment, inadequate prenatal care, pre-term labour and low birth weight infants.  This is a unique program that is making a real difference in the community.

We invite caring businesses and individuals to sponsor a table so that children from regional community support networks such as Ottawa Boys and Girls Club can attend.
